Unlike the starfish they resemble, brittle stars and serpent stars are quick moving organisms capable of both hunting and escaping predators.

They propel themselves with the serpentine type motion of their highly flexible arms rather than with undulating suction like most starfish. Their arms can quickly regenerate and are readily dropped in order to confuse would be predators.

Pieces are hermetically sealed on archival materials to last a lifetime.
